BKg & Company New York is a sweater company run by a family enjoying its place in the competition between American-made clothing and imported goods. Brian and Kathleen actively evolve and earn their competitive edge through a combination of great design, unusual business concepts, and careful manufacturing. Much in the fashion of Kathleen’s grandfather during the depression and that era of style, and continuing under the tutelage of her parents, Bobbie and Billy, this family rarely approaches creation and presentation of its sweaters in traditional ways.

The joy Brian and Kathleen take in BKg’s guiding principle ~ that their customers deserve something special ~ is contagious! What’s more fun than playing with color and style, talking about what people love to wear, and hearing how much someone loves her sweater? It’s a great thing to see a woman’s eyes light up when she sees the perfect style or color. Enabling a woman to feel happier and prettier with herself is one of the nicest benefits of this business.

Kathleen designs with BKg’s stores – and their customers – in mind. She says “We understand the value of a comfortable, casual lifestyle, and respect the importance of a high quality product. Our designs are ‘uncomplicated and optimistic’, with simplicity and clarity in style and color. We hold on to our original concept of function AND folly that complements the upbeat and positive individualism of the woman wearing BKg. We strive to maintain an important and vital position in our store’s merchandising plan.”

The boutiques BKg works with also embrace the American tradition of owning and running a business. “While we compete with imports, our stores compete with ‘majors’. We both recognize and accept the challenge of actively pursuing and defining a unique identity that attracts and keeps our customers. A great benefit for all of us doing business in the States is our ability to pick up on subtle nuances and act on them quickly… we’re not stuck on six month lead times as dictated by those overseas.”
